Nettles: An Affordable Herb for Stronger Hair + Natural Energy.

Herbs. Healing Tonic.

My favorite part about natural healing remedies is how simple it can be. I have been very interested in herbs lately. But at first, I was a bit skeptical. They seemed impractical and a bit like 60-dollar adaptogen powders that then need to be mixed into 20-dollar nut-milks and a whole bunch of other ridiculous ingredients.

If herbs sound like too much, let me convince you that they are quite practical! Not only are they relatively inexpensive but packed with lots of nutrition!!

In a previous post, I shared about the herb Oatstraw. You can read more about the oatstraw benefits here. But today, we are going to be talking about NETTLES benefits and how you can make a simple nettles infusion.

Nettles Benefits:

Nettles is a great infusion to add in if you are struggling with allergies, exhaustion, and adrenal fatigue. It builds up the body and nourishes the adrenals to restore natural energy. It is also a great support to your skin, hair, bones, and urinary health.

Nettles are packed full of lots of vitamins and minerals including:

  • Iron builds up blood and helps those who are anemic.
  • Calcium which supports strong bones
  • Magnesium which relaxes the nervous system and digestion
  • Zinc supports immune health and wound healing
  • B vitamins support energy and hair growth.
  • Potassium which gives energy and supports kidney and urinary health
  • Selenium which is an anti-cancer mineral
  • Chromium supports blood sugar.

All these nutrients work together to nourish and re-balance the body. The nettles infusion is a wonderful way to drink a multi-vitamin in an inexpensive way!!

My Experience with Nettles:

I love nettles tea! I was skeptical about how it would taste, but I truly enjoy it! The biggest improvement I have noticed is in my hair. I have a lot of hair, but I always have had lots of stray hair falling out. It seemed to get worse after quitting the pill and rebalancing my hormones. After drinking nettles tea for a few weeks, I noticed a significant improvement in how many strands came out during my shower. WOW. I have had many days with less than 5 itty bitty strands lost compared to my average of about 10-20-30 strands. The difference has surprised me and it is why I am a big believer in herbal infusions today!

How to Get Started with Herbal Infusions:

First, let’s answer “where to purchase your herbs?” You can purchase nettles from Amazon. Frontier CoopMountain Rose Herbs. or Starwest Botanicals are the brands I recommend. The large bag will last you a long time and it’s totally worth it!

Next, you want a large glass jar to hold the tea while it is brewing. I suggest a 1-gallon jar for larger batches. Or if you just want to make enough for 1 day, you can use a french press!

In this recipe, I will explain how to make the infusion using a french press. Read the post on oatstraw on how to make a bigger batch of tea.

Nettles Herbal Infusion

What you Need:

1/2 cup of nettles herbs
1 tsp of spearmint
organic 100% juice like pomegranate or cranberry
french press
cooking pot
tea strainer
glass pitcher or mason jars
filtered water

Directions:

  1. Fill up the french press with filtered water and pour it into a pot to boil.
  2. Boil the water.
  3. Fill up the french press with nettles and spearmint.
  4. Once the water is boiling, pour over the water over the herbs.
  5. Let sit overnight. The longer it sits the more nutrients will infuse in the tea.
  6. After the tea has had time to infuse, pour into a mason jar! Use the tea strainer over the mason jar to block the herbs from getting in.
  7. Add a bit of organic juice to sweeten the tea.
  8. Drink up and enjoy your magical nettles tea infusion!

Let me know if you try this infusion and report back on any benefits you notice!! 🙂

Cheers to simplicity in natural healing!
